船用电缆的使用要求：
（1）电缆应适用世界各地及各种气候条件的要求，能承受严寒，干、湿热地区的各种气候条件。
（2）船舶长期远离陆地，对电缆的安全可靠性要求很高，如电性能良好、稳定、不延然。在某些舱位敷设的电缆要求耐油性好。
（3）船内空间小，对电缆外径和外径公差要求严格。为便于安装，要求电缆柔软。某些舱位（如主机、锅炉舱），温度高达45-55，有的湿度高在95%以上，要求电缆耐热、防潮、防霉性好。
（4）电缆安装或移动时，拉力一般比陆地上大，且易受刮、擦等外力，要求有较好的机械性能。在甲板、桅杆上的电缆要求耐日光、大气和海水的倾蚀。
（5）部分电缆要求有防干扰的能力。
（6）船用电线电缆的阻燃、耐火要求特别严格。
